haemophilic child has previously been described (McCarthy and Coble, 1973). The present case emphasizes that, with maintenance of adequate factor VIII levels, surgical intervention for cerebral haemorrhage can be undertaken without haemostatic problems. Although the ultimate prognosis was not affected here, neurosurgery should now be contemplated for this complication. The use of the EMI scan i...
متن کاملThe Combination of Edestin with Hydrochloric Acid
Electromotive force measurements of cells without liquid junction, of the type Ag, AgCl, HCl + protein, H(2), lead to the conclusion that 1 gm. of edestin (or, more probably, edestan) combines with a maximum of 13.4 x 10(-4) equivalents of H(+) and 3.9 x 10(-4) equivalents of Cl(-), when the protein is dissolved in 0.1 M HCl.

1. Cooper's gelatin purified according to Northrop and Kunitz exhibited a minimum of osmotic pressure and a maximum of opacity at pH 5.05 +/-0.05. The pH of solutions of this gelatin in water was also close to this value. It is inferred that such gelatin is isoelectric at this pH and not at pH 4.70. 2. Hydrogen electrode measurements with KCl-agar junctions were made with concentrated solutions...
متن کاملWhite Esophageal Mucosa and Black Gastric Mucosa: Upper Gastrointestinal Injury Due to Hydrochloric Acid Ingestion
ingestion can cause severe injury to the esophagus and stomach. The severity and extent of esophageal and gastric damage resulting from caustic ingestion depend upon several factors. In the present report, we describe the case of a 55-year-old schizophrenic man who drank 400 mL of hydrochloric acid. Endoscopy indicated the presence of white esophageal mucosa and black gastric mucosa, which is e...
متن کاملFatal Course of a Suicidal Intoxication with Hydrochloric Acid
Suicidal ingestion of undiluted hydrochloric acid is a rare but live-threatening event. We report on the dramatic and fulminant course of a 61-year-old woman who drank 200 ml of 30-33% hydrochloric acid. On admission to our intensive care unit she was alert and oriented with stable vital signs. Gastroscopy demonstrated complete necrosis from the hypopharynx to the pylorus, which was flushed con...
